Diaper Rash

When we hear the words "diaper rash", we think of babies and baby diaper rash, but diaper rash is actually a generic term for a skin rash in the diaper area, which can be caused by any number of irritants. Diaper rash, or diaper dermatitis is usually red and scaling and occasionally ulcerated. Causes of diaper rash are usually contact with feces and urine trapped inside the diaper for any length of time. Some other causes or factors for diaper rash are:

Candida diaper dermatitis is a yeast diaper rash caused by a yeast infection in the diaper area and is usually preceded by diaper dermatitis. Treating diaper rash in a baby is very important to prevent it from becoming a severe diaper rash.
Seborrheic diaper dermatitis is a common skin condition that affects the diaper area as well as other areas of the body.
Impetigo-dermatitis caused by a bacterial infection
Perianal streptococcal disease is a dermatitis caused by a streptococcus. A streptococcus diaper rash may need to be treated by a physician with the aid of creams or antibiotics. Your baby's pediatrician can show you diaper rash pictures so you can identify what type of rash he or she has.

One thing that has changed is that doctors now recommend against using boric acid diaper rash cream since they fell boric acid is poison. A mixture of water and vinegar is just as effective in cleansing the area and helping it heal quickly. In most cases, diaper rashes can be cure at home.
