Olay

Olay is a Procter & Gamble brand whose start in South Africa was based on a facial moisturizer skin care product. It was originally called “Oil of Olay” as a spin off the name “lanolin”, one of the main ingredients in the moisturizer. When it was first sold, it was not described as any one thing in particular but just advertised as a way to make a woman feel and look younger. Eventually, this form of advertising paid off as consumers began requesting this product. When they began to market this lotion internationally, they changed the name depending on what country it was going to in an attempt to boost sales. In the UK, it was called oil of Ulay; in Australia, it was called oil of Ulan; and oil of Olaz in the Netherlands.

Since then, Olay has expanded their product line to include hypoallergenic products, soaps, body wash and cleansers and creams designed for any skin type to be used by anyone. In 1999, the worldwide name became just ‘Olay” and they expanded their Olay brand product lines even further. Their specialty groups are Complete, Total Effects, Regenerist, Quench, White Radiance, and Olay Vitamins. The Olay brand products are sold and are popular around the world.
