Psoriasis

Psoriasis is basically believed to be an immune mediated disease which affects primarily the skin and joints. Psoriasis causes red, dry, scaly patches on the skin that are commonly called psoriatic plaques or lesions. These plaques most often occur on the knees and elbows, but can affect any area of the body including the scalp or genitals, which is when scalp psoriasis and genital psoriasis is developed. Psoriasis even shows on the fingernails and is commonly referred to as nail psoriasis.

There are basically four different forms of Psoriasis that are known of. Plaque Psoriasis, Guttate Psoriasis, Pustular Psoriasis, and Flexural Psoriasis. Plaque Psoriasis is the most common form of Psoriasis and is found with 80%-90% of the people with Psoriasis. This form of Psoriasis generally shows up as raised areas of inflamed skin covered with silvery white scaly skin. Pustular Psoriasis shows up as pustules or raised bumps that are filled with pus, and is generally localized to the hand and feet. Guttate Psoriasis is identified with small, tear drop shaped red spots and can be found all over parts of the body. Flexural Psoriasis comes in smooth infamed patches of skin, usually in the folds of skin on the body, around genitals, armpits, or under breasts. There is no Psoriasis cure but it’s good to know the symptoms of Psoriasis so you know what to look for.

Psoriasis is chronic, and there is of yet no cure for the different forms of Psoriasis. The medical community is however, constantly coming out with a new and different form of Psoriasis treatment that helps treat the symptoms. There are many people that have been dealing with Psoriasis so long they have come up with a Psoriasis diet to help minimize the effects of their skin condition. It has been shown a deficiency in Vitamin b12 in Psoriasis patients if very common.
